Vintage Cloisonné Peacock Tassel Purse Necklace

A vintage hand-enameled cloisonné pendant purse box centered on a proud peacock in full display, its fanned tail rendered feather by feather in deep black, brick red, and cobalt against a striking jet-black ground. A row of small red and gold blossoms runs along the top edge, echoing the floral bed at the peacock’s feet. The peacock is a traditional symbol of beauty, dignity, and good fortune in Chinese decorative art and is a favorite motif in cloisonné work of this style.

The box opens on a kiss-lock brass frame to an enamel interior, and hangs from a long silk cord finished in two generous silk tassels, substantial enough to wear as a true statement piece. Worn as a necklace or set out as an object of its own, this is cloisonné at its most dramatic.
