Vintage Silver Tumar Style Amulet Box Necklace

A substantial hand-engraved silver tone pendant box in the tradition of the tumar.  A protective amulet holder historically worn by Turkmen and Central Asian women to carry devotional text or talismans close to the body. The arched, temple-shaped lid and body are densely engraved with rosette florals over a cross-hatched ground, bordered in fine rope-twist trim.

Suspended from a substantial hand-linked chain, the box is flanked by two faceted carnelian-toned beads at the shoulders  a color long associated in this tradition with protection.
